Greyton MTB Classic
YEARLY EVENT - PLEASE CONTACT US FOR DATES

The GREYTON MTB CLASSIC just keeps getting better every year and this one you definately don't want to miss. You can choose to cycle or to run across the farms in the heart of the countryside surrounding Greyton, in the Overberg. Magnificent private farms at the foot of the Sonderend Mountain Range, are accessible only for this event. The farmers are working hard at cutting more singletrack through the pineforest. The terrain is varied, from steep rocky uphills and sharp fast technical downhills. Best to sharpen up for this challenge - it‘s tough, but spectacular and well worth your effort.

The 25km route gets to enjoy all the same great routes as the 45km, excluding a few of the steep climbs. Thule will have a festive waterpoint on top of a hill which is a light aircraft landing strip. This will be the 25km and 45km split. Tractor ride available from the venue to take spectators up to one of the dams so that they can watch the cyclists. Friday night before the race, the well known Oak and Vigne restaurant in the village is having a pasta night. All pre-entries can collect their race numbers at the restaurant between 18h30 and 21h00. Bookings essential for supper as space is limited. Sponsors have really come to the fore again this year, and great prizes are up for grabs. To name a few, Sportsmans Warehouse, First Ascent, USN, Thule, Rav-X, Buff Headgear and more. Goodie bags for online entries and pre-race lucky draw. BUSHMANS BLITZ 32km.

Held annually in mid October is the Bushman's Blitz Trail Run

Pure trail running bliss on the most spectacular route. THE ICONIC GREYTON TO MCGREGOR hiking trail, out and back. Knee-jerking singletrack which requires trail running fitness.

The quaint country ramble of the Greyton – McGregor 32km Bushmans Blitz and scenic 12km is the scene of trail running action in October. Runners are encircled by mountain views from start to finish; routes include mixed terrain of river crossings with wide river beds and decent climbs to mountain peaks with remarkable views of valleys and village.

The routes start in the village and veer off into the nature reserve for a warm up leg, winding through fynbos covered slopes and gentle single track. Two river crossings later, the 32km pack are lead onto the first ascent of lung busting climbing of 5 km’s of steep uphill on a track of loose pebbles. The trail follows a river gorge that unveils spectacular views over an echo of valley and the The Oaks waterfall 18m drop.

After this first summit and a few moments out for the heart rate to stabilise, another few k’s takes you towards the second summit with a less gruelling ascent. A knee jerking, zig zag descent follows and way in the distance, the trail snakes it’s way past several waterfalls and on to the 3rd and final peak, at the 18k mark which is the turn-around point.

Half way mark and turn-around-point is at DIE GALG > the checkpoint and waterstation to quench your thirst on ice cold coke before your return to Greyton.

A few limp over the finish line, a few bail half way and comments such as “ awesome” “absolutely incredible route” and “flipping tough” were voiced.

An exclusive trail challenge with permission granted for 50 entries only -book now !! pre entries only

12km GREYTON MOUNTAIN RUN

The 12km is incredibly scenic offering a fair workout with climbing to the top of the Greyton mountains surrounding the village. Breathtaking views and 4 river crossings added to this fun-filled trail. The indigenous flowers burst through the freshly soaked winter soil to spoil us with an impressive show of colour.

The route starts and finishes in the village. A warm up of around 2km’s before you start meadering up gentle slopes in the reserve. The first 7km’s of the route follow the Bushmans Blitz route until the split of the two challenges.

Some decent ascends up the mountains with swooping downhills, river bed crossings and paths winding you through the nature reserve and across the gorge. Crossing river beds leads you around the mountain range surrounding the village with the most incredible views.

Average runner can expect around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. ONLY 100 SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR THE 12km – pre entries only.
